“Newman interns today;
Leaders of the Church tomorrow.”
Internships at the Newman Center are designed to target students interested in ministry roles and encourage experiential learning as a complimentary approach to their educational endeavors at the collegiate level. This program focuses on student leadership growth through an internship experience which will lead to greater and stronger participation in the students’ chosen fields as well as the future Church. Applications are available at the beginning of the spring semester for the upcoming school year. While the CM Intern can be held by a recent graduate or part-time student, all other internship positions are available for full-time college students.
Campus Ministry Internship
The Campus Ministry Intern lives in an apartment upstairs at the Newman Center and works as a part of the Campus Ministry Team to plan and oversee many of the programs that the Newman Center offers. The intern receives free room (including cable and utilities) and a monthly stipend. While this is a year-long “part-time” position, be aware that the amount of work ebbs and flows with the schedule of events (i.e., more hours at the beginning of the school year, while less during the summer and breaks). You must be at least 21 years old at the start of the internship.
Peer Ministers
The four Peer Ministers (2 men and 2 women) serve as the welcoming face at the Newman Center, seeking out and contacting all new Catholic students. The Peer Ministers will work approximately 200 hours from August through Newman Week. They must complete a day of formation, attend weekly meetings with Campus Ministry, log their interactions, manage a calling list of new students, and spend the remainder of the hours in direct ministry (phone calls, meetings, etc.) with new students (primarily freshman and transfer students). Peer Ministers will also work approximately 30 hours during Welcome Week, coordinating a move-in team and coordinating one of the Welcome Week events. Peer Ministers receive a stipend of $1,000.
